丹丹湘菜烧烤云顶半山第二分行 (Dan Dan Xiang Chai) is a delightful culinary gem nestled in the heart of Genting Highlands at 13, Jalan Jati 1, Gohtong Jaya. Specializing in authentic Hunan-style Chinese cuisine, this restaurant brings bold, fiery flavors to life through expertly crafted dishes and an inviting, if compact, setting.
From the moment you walk in, the aromas of sizzling skewers and savory stir-fries promise a feast that’s rich in both taste and tradition. The signature skewers here are a standout—juicy, flavorful, and boasting an authentic smoky char that perfectly complements the robust seasoning typical of Xiang cuisine. Don’t miss their renowned Stir-Fry Pork (小炒肉), acclaimed by many diners as the best around, with tender pork slices infused with a perfect balance of spices that make each bite irresistibly delightful.
The menu also features crowd-pleasers like 蟹黄豆腐 (Crab Roe Tofu), which is decadently rich and pairs beautifully with steamed rice, and 酸辣土豆丝 (Hot and Sour Shredded Potato), a refreshing palate cleanser with just the right tang to awaken your taste buds. However, some dishes, such as the 红烧鲳鱼 (Braised Pomfret), have received mixed feedback for being slightly salty, so you might want to try other specialties if you prefer milder seasoning.
While the restaurant’s space is on the cozy side and seating arrangements could be more comfortable, the team’s warm and attentive service makes up for it, creating a genuinely welcoming dining experience. Several patrons recommend avoiding peak hours to enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere without feeling rushed or cramped.
Pricing here is reasonable given the generous portion sizes—a perfect fit for groups or families seeking hearty, satisfying meals without overspending. A recent visit by a party of seven sampling nine dishes and assorted skewers totaled around RM 400++, emphasizing the good value relative to quality and quantity in this mountainous dining locale.
Moreover, Dan Dan Xiang Chai delights with its honest, down-to-earth vibe, and despite the intriguing underworld-themed décor—which some may find quirky—the focus firmly rests on food authenticity and flavorful execution. This spot is especially ideal for those craving genuine Chinese-style skewers and Xiang cuisine away from the more tourist-centric mall eateries nearby.
In summary, if you’re exploring Genting Highlands and yearn for robust, spice-forward dishes that evoke the heart of Hunan, Dan Dan Xiang Chai is a compelling destination. Just come prepared for a bustling yet friendly environment, and you’ll leave satisfied and eager to return.

If you ignore the underworld themed decor it’s actually pretty good. Food was brilliant with no additional tax and service charges. The skewers are authentic, juicy, cheap and flavorful, and their Stir-Fry Pork (小炒肉) is the best. And all these low-Star reviews are way too overwhelming. If you want Chinese-style skewers, and if you want cheaper options, just try this. Non-halal.

7 pax 9 dishes + skewers around RM 400++ Hidden gem!! So good and authentic Chinese dishes! An alternative choice for food when you’re tired of the restaurants in the mall. Reviewing this so that I can check it out again when I’m back at Genting!
